Kirtland's Warbler GeoTrail

While the Kirtland’s Warbler Weekend scheduled for June 5-6, 2020 was cancelled, the launch of the Kirtland's Warbler GeoTrail (KWGT) was held on Saturday June 6, 2020 at the CRAF Center in Roscommon.

Kirtland's Warbler themed geocaches have been be placed in a loop through a portion of the central Northern Michigan Jack Pine ecosystem, home of Kirtland’s Warblers, with a geocoin reward.  Geocachers must find 20 of the 25 total caches and answer the questions about Kirtland’s Warblers found inside each cache to earn the Kirtland  geocoin.  The  KWGT passport is also   available for download below    When you complete the Geotour, you can mail the completed form to earn the coin.

Participation is ongoing throughout the year, however the snowy season will make it very difficult to locate caches.

Gahagan joined forces with Roscommon County 4H to catalouge the variety of living species in the county.   While the Roscommon County BioBlitz was conducted during 2020 summer, Gahagan continues to catalouge the living things within the preserve.  Go to the resources drop down under the Education tab to find a link to the iNaturalist Program to learn more about how to begin and start to participate when you visit.
